To expand our perspective to a planetary scale, we need to somehow include the planet in the flow of information we consume, we need to let the planet into our world
Very cool! I rarely see this idea promoted. One way I have of trying to cultivate this perspective is when looking at the horizon imagining it as a tiny segment of the VERY LARGE curvature of the planet. Another way is when I’m out for a walk or whatever I’ll just say to myself “ladies and gentlemen, we are floating in space” — that’s the title of a song from Spiritualized that I’ve always liked.
I like this "Ladies and gentlemen" Practice!! Sounds cool! I have some other planetary practices and games in mind, so will be posting those every now and then.
Today I pinned Google Earth to my browser and hit "I'm Feeling Lucky." Google took me to Ticino in Switzerland (the southern, Italian-speaking region), where I happened to attend a conference in 2022. Flashback. Of all the places it could have picked! Thinking I'm going to like this new planetary practice.
My conference was in Lugano, which was just lovely. But we did a day trip further afield in the Ticino region. After my conference I traveled around Switzerland for a week with a free Swiss Rail pass (!!). There are distinct regions (divided by giant mountains): the Italian (south), German (north and east), and French (west). Wonderful country.

Wow, there must be a stunning view of the mountains from every point!
